The Teachers' Institute's school-based teacher training programmes provide trainees with meaningful opportunities to observe, practise, and teach within real classroom environments from the very start of their training. Supported by experienced teachers and leaders in their home school, placement school, trainee cohort, and the TTI team, trainees benefit from a highly collaborative learning experience.

We have built a strong network of trusted primary and secondary Partner Schools across Auckland and Hamilton. These schools are carefully selected for their commitment to developing future educators and providing high-quality mentoring, guidance, and professional learning opportunities. Through these partnerships, trainees learn alongside skilled practitioners, experience a variety of school contexts, and develop the knowledge, confidence, and professional judgement required for successful teaching careers.

Our hands-on approach ensures that coursework and assessments are closely integrated with classroom practice. Trainees are encouraged to reflect on their experiences, seek and apply feedback, and connect educational theory with day-to-day teaching, creating powerful opportunities for professional growth.

An Immersive Year-Long Placement

Trainees are placed in a Partner School for the full academic year, allowing them to become valued members of a school community while gaining extensive classroom experience. From day one, they are immersed in the life of the school, working alongside experienced educators and engaging directly with students.

This immersive model enables trainees to develop effective, evidence-informed teaching practices and graduate as confident, classroom-ready teachers equipped to make an immediate impact on student learning.
