The Teachers' Institute is registered as a Private Training Establishment (PTE) with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) under the Education and Training Act 2020. NZQA is the government body responsible for quality assurance in New Zealand's tertiary education sector.
Our two approved programmes — the Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary, School-Based) and the Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching (Primary, School-Based) — are approved and accredited by NZQA and accredited by the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand | Matatū Aotearoa. You can view our current NZQA profile at: www.nzqa.govt.nz (search for The Teachers' Institute or provider number 4409).
Quality Assurance Framework
NZQA requires all registered PTEs to participate in an ongoing quality assurance process. From 2026, NZQA has replaced its previous External Evaluation and Review (EER) system with a new Integrated Quality Assurance Framework (iQAF). The Teachers' Institute has been registered since 2024 and is operating under the iQAF framework from the outset of its quality assurance cycle.
Under iQAF, the Institute is required to:
-
Conduct an annual self-review of the effectiveness of our quality management systems
-
Submit a self-review summary report to NZQA each year
-
Participate in an annual discussion with NZQA about our performance
-
Participate in NZQA monitoring activities as required
The Institute is committed to honest and rigorous self-assessment. We take our quality obligations seriously and use our quality review processes to identify where we can improve and to demonstrate to NZQA, the Teaching Council, and our students that we are delivering on our commitments. Our self-review reports will be made available to students and the public via our website.
NZQA Registration Status
The Teachers' Institute currently has no conditions placed on its PTE registration, no compliance notices issued by NZQA that remain unresolved, and no notice of intention to cancel registration. If this changes at any time, we are required by law to inform all enrolled students promptly.
Similarly, if NZQA places any conditions on our approved programmes or issues any compliance notice in relation to a programme, we are required to inform students enrolled in that programme. At the time of publication of this statement, no such conditions or notices are in place.
Students' Right to Information
Under Section 354 of the Education and Training Act 2020, students will be provided with information about:
-
The Institute's quality assurance status and any conditions on our registration
-
Any conditions or compliance notices relating to the student's programme
-
The Institute's complaints processes and NZQA's complaints processes for students
-
The student discipline and appeals processes
If at any time a student wishes to verify the Institute's registration status, or to find out whether any compliance action has been taken by NZQA, they can check the NZQA website directly: www.nzqa.govt.nz
Raising a Concern With NZQA
If a student has a concern about the Institute that has not been resolved through our internal complaints process, they have the right to raise it with NZQA. Information about how to do this is available at: www.nzqa.govt.nz/about-us/make-a-complaint
International students — dispute resolution
