Residency

Must have NZ citizenship or NZ permanent residency

Qualifications​

A Bachelor’s degree at Level 7 on the New Zealand Qualification Framework (NZQF) or an equivalent. Competence in either English or Te Reo Māori, per Teaching Council Language Competency requirements.

If you have an overseas qualification, you will need to check if it's on the list of Qualifications Exempt from Assessment, or if you will need to apply for an International Qualification Assessment.

Eligibility to Teach Your Selected Subjects

Subject Knowledge​

For the Secondary programme, you need relevant subject knowledge (NZQF Level 5–7 or higher) that matches a secondary school subject. Appropriate to the New Zealand secondary school curriculum learning areas.

2026 Subjects

English, Maths, Te Reo Māori, Technology, Social Sciences (History or Geography), Science (Physics/Biology/Chemistry), Music, Visual Arts, Drama, Accounting, Economics, Business, Languages, Physical Health and Education.

Additional Requirements​
  • Submit all required documents (e.g., certified ID, transcripts, CV).

  • Complete an interview and secure support from a TTI partner school to host your in-school placement.

  • Provide two referees (not family members).

  • Assess your Te Reo Māori level and commit to developing it during the programme.
  • Pass a literacy and numeracy assessment.

  • Pass a safety check, including a New Zealand Police vet (and overseas clearance if required).
     

*In some cases, you may need to provide additional evidence to confirm your suitability for the programme.
