Teaching to the North-East workshop with Professor Russell Bishop

Professor Russell Bishop will be giving a special workshop at The Teachers’ Institute on culturally responsive practice, with a particular focus on his Teaching to the

North-East work. He will discuss his award-winning research on how Māori and other marginalised students – such as the children of migrant, refugee, and faith-based groups and neuro- and gender-diverse children – can benefit from a pedagogical approach that combines strong relationships with effective instructional practices.

Professor Russell Bishop (Tainui, Ngāti Pūkeko) was foundation Professor for Māori Education at the University of Waikato, and the initiator, lead designer and developer, and for the first twelve years, Project Director for Te Kotahitanga. He is the author of 7 books and 80 other publications which focus on the promotion of equity and self-determination in education through the application of kaupapa Māori principles and practices.
