Welcome to the Class of 2026

This month we welcomed a cohort of 150 new teacher trainees to The Teachers’ Institute, comprising around 106 secondary and 44 primary trainees.

Staff welcomed the class of 2026 with a mihi whakatau and orientation event laying the foundations for the year ahead. The event was held at Diocesan School for Girls in Epsom, one of TTI’s 67 partner schools this year.

We also kicked off our first block course, which saw trainees presented with an overview of the TTI programme and expectations; the information needed to enter their home school in the coming days and weeks; and important foundational knowledge around education, teaching and learning.

In 2026, The Teachers’ Institute has more than three times as many teacher trainees as in 2025 (150 vs 47), and almost five times as many partner schools (67 vs 14).

It’s a big year for our trainees and staff and we look forward to our new cohort achieving their Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching (School-based) and taking on what we believe is the best career out there.
