The Teachers’ Institute CEO, David Ferguson, has been appointed Chair of the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand - the professional body for teachers - from 29 August this year (he will be Deputy Chair from now until then). Announced by Minister of Education Hon Erica Stanford MP, this appointment recognises David’s commitment to educational excellence and leadership - from his work at the helm of The Teachers' Institute, to his roles on the NZQA Board and the Ministry of Education’s NCEA Professional Advisory Group, and as former Headmaster of Westlake Boys High School. David said the organisations shared strategic education objectives:
“The Teaching Council promotes safe, high-quality teaching and leadership for students across New Zealand. Its mission complements ours at TTI: to ensure tomorrow’s teachers are truly ready for the classroom.”
David is one of five new appointments to the Board of the Teaching Council, alongside Tom Gott (Deputy Chair), Andrée Atkinson, Dr Sarah Brown and Heath Chittenden.
