TTI inaugural Graduation Ceremony | Class of 2025

Thursday 18 December 2025

The Teachers’ Institute inaugural graduation ceremony was held at Diocesan School for Girls on Friday 5 December, 2025.

The event, attended by graduands, whānau, mentor teachers, Principals, TTI staff and others supporters, was an occasion to celebrate the hard work and achievements of our first cohort of teacher trainees.

100% of our 47 trainees passed the course and were able to cross the stage to receive their Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary, School-based).

The Teachers’ Institute CEO David Ferguson told graduands that in-school training such as the TTI programme was a fundamentally good idea.

“I hope our programme has prepared you for what’s next. That’s the idea - to immerse you in a school, get you used to what it’s like, and give you the context, background theory and advice that you need to be successful,” he said.

He said the fact that the vast majority of trainees had secured employment at their home schools for 2026, with others employed in other TTI partner schools, was a vast source of pride for the team.

“Starting anything new is difficult. A special mention to those who have had a complete change of career and are going back to the start,” he added.

As we look to 2026 and the incoming cohort of future teachers, we extend our warm congratulations to TTI graduates, our dedicated teaching team and our 2025 member schools whose support in training our teachers has been fundamental.

We are also very grateful to the mentor teachers, school co-ordinators and Principals for your hand in steering and preparing our trainees to enter the profession.

We look forward to following the progress of our first cohort of qualified teachers – we truly believe the future of education is in good hands!
