The test features 20 questions, including calculations and word problems. Calculators are not permitted, but you may use pen and paper.
Questions focus on decimals, fractions, and percentages, which are essential for University Entrance level. These topics are key components of Level 4 in the mathematics curriculum for Years 7 and 8 and are recognised as critical for numeracy credits at this level.
Please note that there will be no questions on geometry, measurement, statistics, probability, or algebra involving letters.
Numeracy assessment for Primary teaching applicants
Beginning in 2025, all students pursuing a Bachelor of Education (Teaching) or Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Primary) will be required to take a two-hour numeracy test for Primary and Intermediate school settings.
Developed by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC), this adaptive online test assesses numeracy skills through a mix of short answer and multiple-choice questions. As you progress, questions adjust in difficulty based on your answers. You will receive a score that reflects your performance compared to item difficulty, rather than simply counting correct answers.
A minimum score of 690 is required to pass.
